Why should you want an extra variable in the file upload task which tells you how to process the uploaded file?

If a file requires some sort of processing after it has been uploaded then you should put some code in the _cm_post_fileupload() method.

Can you give me an example of this extra variable and how it is supposed to be used?

What is this processing date used for? When is the processing date decided? Is the file going to be processed as soon as it is uploaded, or later?

The file is processed as soon as it is uploaded, the user who is uploading the file decides which date will be used for process depending on some factors outside the system. This date will be recorded in the resulting file of the process

If the file is processed as soon as it is uploaded, why does it need a separate processing date?

What sort of file is it, and how is it processed?

The processing date must be entered by user, even when I keep record of the real processing date; this is used for subsequent calculations.
The file is .xls and is processed sequentially

If it is an xls file, which is data, why can't it contain the processing date as part of its data?

I have written several tasks which upload and process CSV/XLS files, and they take all the data they need from the contents of the file.

the file comes from a third party, it's much easier to type a date in a screen than open a file, change it and save it.
If I can't change the file upload screen is there a way to insert a dummy task only for to type the date??
Thanks for your time

The fileupload screen is for the uploading of files only, which may be any type of file, not just data. It has no provision for any additional fields which are not connected to the upload.

If you are uploading a data file which needs to be imported into the database, then the import has to be a performed in a separate task. This import task should then read records from the data file and update the database with whatever logic you specify. All the data required by this import task should be available either in the data file or in the database.

If this data file is provided by a third party, but it has "missing" data, then this data should be inserted into the file before it is uploaded. You could even put this missing data into a second file which you can upload, then have the import task read both files.

It is not possible to modify the upload task in order to specify values which are missing from the data file.

Thanks for your answer, May I insert a task only for to type the date, then pass it as parameter to the file upload task?
The fact is, that I can't ask users to modify the third party file or create a new file.
Thanks for your time.

It is not possible to modify the upload task so that you can specify data which is missing from the file being uploaded.

If the file supplied by a third party does not contain all the data that you need before it can be added to the database then that is an application issue, not a framework issue.

Instead of uploading this "missing" data via the upload task, why can't you add this data to a database table which you can then access within the task which processes the file after it has been uploaded?

If there is no other way, I will have to create a table only for this purpose.
thanks for your time
