If you have several different tasks which need to update the same database table, but perform different processing, you need to take a look at http://www.tonymarston.net/php-mysql/infrastructure-faq.html #faq49

If the amount of differences in the code is significant then I would recommend using a different subclass for each task. In this way the code for each task would be completely separate and easier to maintain.
