Have some questions related to Example 3 in http://www.radicore.org/demo/workflow/docs/workflow-examples .html:

When a T1 work item is executed by a certain user, are all the downstream work items in that workflow case limited to processing by that same user only?
If not, in the 2 parallel branches, how can we have T2 and T3 related work items assigned to different users or user-groups?

No. When a workflow is created the first item (T1) is assigned to a role, so appears on the Home Page for all users within that role. Whoever is the first user to click on the link for T1 will then take over the whole workflow case.

Here is a simple example of a very common sequential workflow:
1) Employee Joe fills in a form and submit to his manager Frank for approval.
2) Manager Frank gets the request on his home page and click on the link to approve Joe's request and send to accountant Sarah to process.
3) Sarah gets Joe's request on her home page and click on the link to process it.

A key requirement is that each task in the above has to be assigned and appear on a different person's home page for processing.
My understanding from "Whoever is the first user to click on the link for T1 will then take over the whole workflow case" is that such requirement is not currently supported.

If you wish to override the default behaviour you can reassign the workflow case to a particular user by putting a value into $this->wf_user_id
